What customers say

Drain Masters Plumbing came to our rescue! Our water heater went out and they came out quickly to replace it. I feel comfortable referring our friends and family because I know they will be well taken care of. Zeke is awesome and professional and you can tell he really cares about his customers.

Fantastic. Mitch came out on short notice to fix a leaking pipe the wall of my garage, spent all day fixing it, explained the problem to me, and went out of his way to document what had gone wrong and how it was fixed. Grateful for the ability to do laundry again. Thanks!

So overall at first we didn’t have a great start with drain masters but they did call us and correct their mistake. Thank you for following up and making things right. I will look at your company for the future just not dishwasher issues.

When is hydro-jetting the right fix?

When buildup lines the pipe instead of plugging one spot: grease, sludge or roots. A drain machine cable punches through a soft clog; jetting scours the whole pipe interior. We usually recommend it when:

  • The same drain keeps clogging every few months after it has been snaked.
  • Several drains back up at once, which points to the main sewer line rather than one fixture.
  • Grease builds up in a kitchen line, at home or in a restaurant.
  • Roots are in the sewer. Older neighborhoods across San Diego County have clay or cast iron sewer lines, and roots get in through cracked joints.

For one slow sink or tub, regular drain cleaning with a drain machine is usually all it takes.

Why do we run the camera first?

Old galvanized or badly corroded cast iron can crack under jetting pressure. So before we jet, our DrainVision camera goes down the line to show what is causing the clog (grease, roots or debris), what the pipe is made of and whether it has cracks or collapsed sections. See drain and sewer line video inspections.

If the camera shows the pipe itself has failed, jetting alone will not fix it. The line needs sewer repair or MaxLiner relining.

What does jetting clear in each line?

Jetting is for a pipe that is coated, not just plugged. A cable bores a small hole through hardened grease or a root mat and the hole soon closes again; jetting sprays the full circle of the pipe wall, forward and backward, and flushes the loosened buildup down the line.

LineWhat jetting clearsHow we usually get in
Restaurant or commercial kitchen lineA hardened layer of fats, oils and grease coating the whole pipe, plus food solidsThrough a clean-out
Home kitchen lineGrease and sludge on the pipe wall, where new grease and debris keep building upThe same clean-out access used for the sewer line
Main sewer lineRoots grown in through cracked joints and the paper and solids they catch; mineral scale in older pipeThrough the clean-out. No clean-out? We find the line with the camera through the vent or toilet flange, and a clean-out can be added when a root section is repaired
Office, retail and multi-unit main linesBuildup that causes property-wide backupsThrough the main line clean-out

How much does hydro-jetting cost?

It depends on the line, how we can reach it and what the camera shows. We bring a camera and a flat-rate quote to every diagnostic, give you upfront pricing before the work starts, and don’t have any weekend or overtime charges.

Hydro-jetting questions

Is hydro-jetting better than snaking?

Not always. For one slow sink, tub or toilet, snaking is usually enough. Jetting earns its cost when grease, sludge or roots line the pipe, or when the same drain keeps backing up. More in hydro jetting vs. snaking.

How often should a sewer line be jetted?

For older homes with known root issues, every 18 to 24 months is the standard interval for preventive jetting. In most homes a well-jetted line stays clear for 18 to 36 months.

What should I tell you when I call?

How many drains are affected, how long it has been going on, whether other drains gurgle or the toilet bubbles when water runs, the age of the home and any past plumbing repairs, and whether you have had the same clog before.

Do you jet lines for restaurants and commercial buildings?

Yes. In a restaurant, a grease backup can shut the kitchen down for days and lead to health code problems; in office buildings and retail centers, clear main lines prevent backups that affect every tenant. We also offer drain maintenance programs. See commercial drain and sewer cleaning.

Will jetting stop roots for good?

Jetting cuts roots out and flushes the line, but roots can grow back through a cracked joint. If the camera shows the pipe is cracked, lining it with MaxLiner seals the cracks and comes with a lifetime warranty to never get roots again.
